The EP is off the chain - Every track sounds polished and sick and I can't wait to hear what you will do next,

Crossworm is one hell of a versatile Canadian, as evidenced by his latest release MOUTH FULL OF DIRT. MOUTH may be labeled dirtcore, but it's more a combination of a little self deprecation, an unhealthy load of angst and a taste of the macabre, all tangled up in the form of an impressive, emotional six track EP. The album, produced by Crossworm himself (with a little guitar assistance from Lukas D) offers an eclectic blend of music, ranging from grimey metal foundations to melodic hip hop undertones.
And Crossworm finds little trouble pinpointing a comfortable vocal range on each of these varying instrumentals. It's really an impressive effort on the whole.
To support my claims are the unique offerings 'Shades Of Gray', a (somehow) smooth yet aggressive track in which Cross ensures listeners he's here to stay. 'Before I Wake' is a punchy joint that enables Cross to exercise an intricate vocal cadence. To remind listeners he's not just a deranged aggressor, but a sensible, and surprisingly vulnerable human being, capable of rocking mellow soothing instruments Cross slips 'Eyes of the Looking Glass' in the mix. It's a great leveler for what is, in a sense a somewhat hostile collection. The album - which saw official release last year under the N.Y.A Music Inc. banner - has done exceptionally well, quickly selling out all available hard copies. Fret not however, the album is still available as a digital purchase at www.crossworm.com. There are also plans to re-release the album, which will soon reshelf with some brand new bonus material intact. For those looking for completely new Crossworm recordings, you may find solace in the fact that GUT ROTT, the MOUTH FULL OF DIRT follow up will street in early 2010 under the fast rising independent label Thirteen Percent Records.

|2009-11-11 17:17:15 Anonymous - can't wait for the mfod rerelease, gut rott, and
I think Crossworm is dope. I didn't get a chance to pick up MFOD, so I am patiently awaiting the rerelease. All the stuff of his I've heard I've liked. Cross did a great job of coordinating DN2k9. I'd like to see some of these haters put up with what he had to putting this comp together. Keep up the good work!

Damn alot of bashing going on. Allow me to be honest.
First off the album is very short...couple songs clocking in at about 20 minutes in length. This is very disappointing for any release. The album has a nice cover and the shades of gray track has a very nice beat to it. The lyrics...sorry i have to say it...are very simple and abc reminscent of (day/say/play, cat/hat/bat). Even with the very simple words, the delivery is unpolished and it seems he's having a hard time connecting with simple rhyming (there are no metaphors, or clever wordplay here). The voice is a little whiny as well..not commanding and not very confident. Some may bash me and say "he's not a lyricist,he's a story teller bla bla)...but in reality...even when telling a story in lyrical form, you have to be clever. That intelligence is absent here. Overall the album sits at about 1.5 out of 5 stars. here are pros and cons
Pros:
-packaging
-shades of gray production
Cons:
-simple lyrics
-length
-fe...

|2009-11-09 10:33:44 Underground O.G. - crossworn isn't all that
I would have to agree that I to dont like crossworm or his bisness antics. He is a horrible bisness cat who did more of his fair share of fucking people over for his "handed me down" free DN comp. This guy really thinks he is going to get somewhere with his bad acts. I have relized that most people on hc.com r very weak bisness people and r super pussies in real life... now some here might not care what there like as long as they make good music.. but I beg to differ. I need rappers that dont hide behind comps. crossworm is a bitch in my book.

|2009-11-09 10:29:05 Uncle AL - haters are people too
I just gotta say Props to Crossworm for getting a cool review. And keep doing yer thing homie.
But to all the fanboys who think just cuz someone dosent like an artist,or gives an artist harsh criticism, only does so for personal reasons, you are seriously deluded.
Just because someone dislikes youre favorite musician and says so,dosent mean they do so out of envy or anger about being rejected for a project or anything like that.
Maybe they just think dudes music is trash. And they have every right to express their opinions.

I agree. but opinions on music and attacking the dudes character over past events, with no facts, are two separate things.

Wow, a whole lot of whiny faggotry. Obviously Instant Legend doesn't think that his lack of a spot on DN was a personal attack from Crossworm, so why would he make it personal and not review him for Fangoria? Mr. 'professional critic' in the comment section is quite clearly a whiny little bitch tossing around judgment and condescension far more readily than those he accuses of doing so. Being so immature as to find mature business exchanges inconceivable only makes you look that much more stupid.
As for the other two using the moniker of 'crossworm hater', even if everything you claim were true, it wouldn't make his music bad. So quit crying.

|2009-11-08 23:42:59 Juan - What a douche.
Crossworm is such a douche. I mean who in the hell wont give everybody exactly what they want even if that means that a whole cd will get fucked up with filler songs? That dick.
Makes awesome music though.
I LOVE THESE FUCKING SMILIES

|2009-11-08 21:02:59 the haters need to get a life.
Crossworm is a talented person. It is obvious youre ass hurt about not making Devil's Nite. And yes Mars is self centered and he's not even that good of a artist, at all. And he made a asshat out himself when he did the whole, "let me promote my music thru those people's death", even tho he had nothing to do with what happened, other than the kid heard his music. You obviously like trash , and it shows.
Stop hating on someone who obviously has more talent in one finger than you and you opinion of what an artist is.
You're mad, and need to stop crying like little bitches. Ad cause of people like you he still gets a Fangoria spot.
Go kill yourselves. Congrats Crossworm.

it doesnt make sense......
instant legend....you suck bro...you should get fired.
im going to quote
crossworm is a complete douch bag with an enormous ego. he has his head so far up his ass. im suprised Instand Legend even bothered giving him what he wants...such as this review. he only looks out for himself and talks shit of others. like mars...he told me mars is self centered and a liar. i then told him to not talk shit bout mars. he has talent but so do guitar players you see on the streets, its no different then his music. he isnt anything new. he will remain to be a internet name. devils night 2009 was a complete joke. crimson bile had the best track. anyone who reads this....crossworm is NOT horrorcore. he uses the genre to sell his garbage to online kids and uses ...

The album is good. Whether you have some form of personal issues with Cross, well that's for you to sort out buddy.
I studied the album, which is in fact quite dark - it's not GORECORE, but its horror without a doubt.
Interesting to see the haters crawl from the woodwork though.
My recommendation: step your own game up, earn some shine and maybe the envy will find it's way out o your system.

|2009-11-10 09:08:04 hateraid
every year, these GARBAGE basement hobbyists pop their heads out from under a rock and subconsciously hope that Devilz Nite will validate them as an artist. even though they do nothing all year round.
and when they don't make the cut, it shatters their entire world.
