More so than any other genre (or subgenre) of music—be it classical, country, jazz, blues, rap, reggae, or its fellow denominations of rock—metal music has a tendency to be closely associated with the horror-film genre, not to mention horror culture in general. Whether it’s death metal, thrash metal, black metal, doom metal, metalcore, deathcore or hardcore punk, these extreme subgenres seem to be indelibly tied to fright cinema.

As horror is a neverending source of bloody good art and extreme emotions, the genre continues to reinvent itself. With films now playing in groundbreaking 3-D, fearful video-gaming at an all-time high and hi-def discs exploring new digital frontiers, it seems there’s nowhere horror can’t go. Such is the case with a musician who has long adored scary cinema, and the connection he has developed with the distinct and eerie music that is a essential part of them.

We’ve just wrapped up the cover for FANGORIA #293, which doesn’t go on sale for another month—but we can’t wait to show it to you, since it sports a new design courtesy of artist Jason Beam. Media Blasters originally released WICKED LAKE on DVD back in October 2008 on its Shriek Show label; now, the company is planning to rerelease Zach Passero’s horror film on Blu-ray—and this version will feature the director’s cut.

Now that some rousing behind-the-scenes footage (see a new promo clip below) and a well-received trailer (check it out here) have been unleashed for PREDATORS (coming from 20th Century Fox July 9), it’s time to start unveiling our coverage of the reboot, which has already been drumming up a great deal of excitement among fans.
