OK, the whole 3-D/remake trend is now officially getting out of hand. In the wake of the publicity/controversy scared up by the news that George A. Romero will/may/might not be doing a new dimensional version of Dario Argento’s DEEP RED comes word that one of his own films is getting the same treatment.

David E. Durston had a long career in movies, TV and on the stage, from touring with Bela Lugosi in theatrical productions of DRACULA to writing episodes of the early genre series TALES OF TOMORROW, among many others. But the man who died May 6 will always be remembered by fans of ’70s horror as the writer/director of the cult fave I DRINK YOUR BLOOD.

On the commentary for the DVD and Blu-ray of THE NEW DAUGHTER, conducted solo by director Luis Berdejo, he walks us through his beautifully lensed feature. He mentions the lack of cell phones and Internet. “It’s not a period movie,” he says. “But the feeling of it…I wanted it to be like one of those classic movies from the ’80s.”

This past week’s bombshell news out of the Cannes Film Festival was that zombiemeister George A. Romero would be helming a 3-D remake of buddy Dario Argento’s DEEP RED (see item here), the Italian maestro’s 1975 giallo classic starring David Hemmings. How concrete is this announcement, which issued from original DEEP RED producer Claudio Argento?

There have been many cinematic adaptations of Oscar Wilde’s classic novel THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY—but only one was directed by a guy who used to pal around with Clive Barker. This latest DORIAN GRAY, directed by HELLRAISER and NIGHTBREED co-star turned filmmaker Oliver Parker, is heading for DVD and Blu-ray, and we’ve got all the info plus a gruesome new photo.

Syfy rocks when it premieres its Original Movie STONEHENGE APOCALYPSE next month. The science-fiction thriller in which the ancient monoliths trigger horrific disasters all over the world was directed by Syfy stalwart Paul Ziller (SNAKEHEAD TERROR, SEA BEAST, YETI) and written by Ziller and Brad Abraham, the latter of whom spoke to Fango about the project and the Syfy development process.

French actress Beatrice Dalle won widespread critical praise, genre-fan admiration and a Fango Chainsaw Award for her performance as a deranged woman obsessed with another woman’s unborn child in INSIDE (pictured). Now she’s about to embark upon another story of homicidal mania.

June 13 isn’t too far away: That’s when season three of TRUE BLOOD debuts on HBO. Take a look at the new two-minute trailer past the jump.

Dead Rabbit Films—which teams up FRIGHT NIGHT and CHILD’S PLAY director Tom Holland (pictured) with music-biz impresario David Chackler (who served as music supervisor on those two movies)—develops and produces feature films as well as scripted episodic television for emerging networks and mobile platforms. Their latest project is TWISTED TALES, a new series of shorts written and directed by Holland.

On April 23, over 60 filmmakers gathered in Colorado Springs, CO for three days of cinematic bliss at the 3rd Annual Indie Spirit Film Festival. The event showcased over 100 films from all over the world, with four theaters running at a time from morning till night. The features, shorts and documentaries ranged from experimental to narrative, and covered everything from abduction to zombies.

The Ultimate Secret. The Ultimate Agent. The President’s Vampire. OK, did you laugh? Well, we’re being serious. Christopher Farnsworth’s novel BLOOD OATH was just released today and—surprise! surprise!—it has also been announced that it’s being adapted into a film.

Chris Alexander tells me news of Dave Everitt's death came just in time for him to add a farewell to the masthead of the upcoming issue.

That's Dave, ever the professional. Even in death, he can meet a deadline.

When Dave Everitt, who passed away on May 7 (see previous story here) was first hired at the outfit that fellow FANGORIA founder Ed Naha liked to call “The House of Pain” (borrowing from H.G. Wells the term the “beast-men” used to refer to the lab of the very mad Dr. Moreau), he wasn’t attached to Fango; instead, he was more or less a floating staffer who could be applied wherever the need was greatest.
