Take one part CALVAIRE/THE ORDEAL and one part HIGH TENSION, stir in some mutants and you have LA MEUTE (THE PACK), which unfortunately shapes up as one of the weakest in the past decade’s resurgence of French-language frights. While the movie (which had its North American premiere this week at Montreal’s Fantasia film festival) has the surface attributes of a gritty rural shocker, it suffers from both overfamiliarity and some serious story inconsistencies.

All eyes in the horror world were on the weekend of October 22 this year, when the PARANORMAL ACTIVITY and SAW franchises were to have a head-to-head box-office battle. But now it has been averted; SAW 3D (pictured, a.k.a. SAW VII) has been shifted a week to October 29.

Exciting news out of Comic-Con yesterday: Guillermo del Toro, whose next project after dropping out of THE HOBBIT was widely speculated about, will get back to scare territory with THE HAUNTED MANSION. He’ll co-write, produce and possibly direct the film for Disney, inspired by their popular theme-park attraction.

Last December the producers of RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE granted FANGORIA exclusive access to the Toronto set of the fourth chapter in their action horror franchise, derived from the best-selling Capcom videogames. For 10 weeks, right up to the AFTERLIFE’s September 10 release from Screen Gems, Fangoria.com will be presenting a series of one-on-one interviews with the movie’s cast and crew.

Artist Drew Struzan has done amazing posters for everything from STAR WARS to HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER’S STONE. So, when creator-director-executive producer Frank Darabont was looking for an artist to come up with a special Comic-Con one-sheet for his upcoming WALKING DEAD series, he called upon Struzan, whom he previously collaborated with on THE MIST.

After taking home the Golden Lion at the 65th edition of the Venice Film Festival with THE WRESTLER, director Darren Aronofsky (REQUIEM FOR A DREAM) will be back in Venice as his BLACK SWAN opens the upcoming 67th edition of the festival. Additionally, a Natalie Portman image from the film has hit the web.
