Filmmaker Devi Snively (pictured) has scooped up a number of awards for her macabre short films over the past several years, and won more praise recently for her feature debut TRIPPIN’. Fango just got the scoop that TRIPPIN’ and Snively’s other work is headed for general release next year.

Camp Motion Pictures gave us the word that it will release TRIPPIN’ and a collection of Snively’s shorter work on a limited-edition two-DVD set April 10, 2012. The latter titles include DEATH IN CHARGE, LAST SEEN ON DOLORES STREET, RAVEN GETS A LIFE, MEAT IS MURDER, CONFEDERATE ZOMBIE MASSACRE, TEENAGE BIKINI VAMPIRE and I SPIT ON ELI ROTH. TRIPPIN’ is a black-humored homage to “cabin in the woods” fright flicks, centering on the sole survivor of a vacation massacre, who, a year later, meets up with Snively and offers the movie rights to his story in exchange for a part in the film—and a case of beer. “TRIPPIN’ is a fresh and darkly comic twist on a beloved scenario,” says Camp’s Paige Davis, “and Devi Snively is one of the most exciting new talents to emerge on the independent horror scene. I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to present her body of work to date to the horror community via Camp Motion Pictures.”

Snively tells Fango that TRIPPIN’, which has played over 20 festivals and snapped up three awards (including Best Screenplay at the Bram Stoker Film Festival), has received quite a bit of attention from potential distributors. “To my surprise, our little movie landed eight offers, which shocked me to no end,” she says. “I honestly thought it would be too low-budget—i.e. less than PARANORMAL ACTIVITY—to entice distributors. Still, no offer felt quite right until we  connected with Camp. I’d met with their team back with our earliest films on the fest circuit, and instantly recognized kindred spirits in them.

“It’s funny,” she continues. “Some of the bigger companies who made offers would call me after screening TRIPPIN’ and act surprised that they actually liked it, confessing, ‘We were gonna make you an offer based on your fest success and artwork anyway. Who knew it was actually good?’ That seriously turned me off. Too many companies treat distribution like a numbers game, rather than actually caring about what they’re putting out into the world. So I was thrilled when we reconnected with Camp and they were so enthused about our wacky oeuvre. They so get us. Paige has been wonderfully personal, and I feel like we found the perfect home.”

Recently, Snively’s screenplay PAIGE & HADLEY’S PROM FROM HELL (written with Circus-Szalewski) was a finalist at the Sundance Writer’s Lab and won the Grand Jury Award for Best Screenplay at the London Independent Film Festival, among other honors, and she has four feature projects cooking, all in the $1-3-million range. “It’s been a rollercoaster for sure—lots of hurry up and wait. But in the meantime, we’re shooting a new web series, MARTINI MOM & DEVIL SPAWN, that will launch about the time TRIPPIN’ is released, working on our most ambitious short to date [BRIDE OF FRANKIE], plus following DOLORES around on the fest circuit. I’m just back from the Rhode Island Horror Fest, where we won Best Directorial Discovery, and next week I’m off to the Berlin Interfilm fest, which is a rite of passage for us. We were chosen from over 5,000 entries! It’s especially exciting, as there’s a chance we’re shooting one of our next films in Prague or Germany. This will be a nice way to get my feet wet over there.”
