The MTV network is continuing to make inroads into the genre scene, and has announced a new series called DEATH VALLEY. But don’t expect a desert-set saga here; read on for info and a first photo.

Executive-produced by Eric Weinberg, Austin Reading, Julie Kellman Reading, Tony DiBari and Tim Healy and premiering Monday, August 29 at 10:30 p.m., DEATH VALLEY is a horror/comedy show that takes a docu-style approach to following the exploits of the Undead Task Force (UTF), a division of the LAPD assembled to deal with the supernatural creatures that have invaded California’s San Fernando Valley. (Death Valley…get it?) The officers, played by a cast headed by LOST’s Tania Raymonde, Bryan Callen, Caity Lotz, Bryce Johnson, THE TASK’s Texas Battle and Charlie Sanders, have their hands full dealing with the vampires, werewolves and zombies stalking the streets; Fango has learned that the assorted creatures were created by Ron Karkoska and the Monster FX gang, whose credits include the REEKER movies and THE HILLS RUN RED. The pilot and first subsequent episode were directed by Eric Appel, while Drew Daywalt helmed the next three installments. Check out the DEATH VALLEY trailer here.
