Ford Austin (pictured), the director of DAHMER VS. GACY who also plays the first of the two title roles, faced a horrific situation himself a couple of months ago. Austin was in a devastating car accident in Los Angeles March 9 that left him near death and has been in intensive care for nearly seven weeks, moved just this past weekend to non-critical hospital care. Austin spoke to Fango from his hospital bed, giving his first media interview since the accident.

The filmmaker incurred massive traumatic injuries in the accident and, as a result, suffered multiple heart attacks that twice stopped his heart from beating for several minutes. Friends and family say the 40-year-old is a strong-willed man who, with a great deal of rehab, will make a full recovery over time. “Thank you to everyone for all of your prayers, good wishes and healing thoughts,” Austin tells Fango. “It’s obviously working, as I am out of ICU and well on the road to recovery. I am so excited about the DVD release of DAHMER VS. GACY [which we previously reported on here] and I can’t wait to see you in person at future conventions. Please know that although I died twice and came back, I am here to stay.”
