I’m not sure when the name, Tom Savini, came into my lexicon of words. Growing up in the eighties, the name just always seemed to be there. Being a child at the time, I didn’t really have the understanding that “Savini” was a person. I just remember the older kids talking about how “Savini” did that movie, so it was “going to be awesome”!

It’s been a long time since my last entry; a long time. In some ways I feel like Ash at the end of ARMY OF DARKNESS (the Boomstick original ending, that is): awakened in a strange and distant world that is unfamiliar to my withered and weathered face. But in more realistic ways, I feel as though my life has simply changed: a transition, if you will. No, the Deadites have not been summoned from an eternal slumber. No, I was not transported back to medieval times. And most regrettably, I do not have a chainsaw for an arm. Life simply has a way of getting the best of you and you either succumb or live to tell the tale. With any luck you come out the other end a stronger individual and like Ash, you grab life in a fit of passion, gaze into its eyes and say “gimme some sugar, baby!”

I've been covering UK filmmaking collective Bloody Cuts since the second film in their thirteen-part short film anthology (STITCHES) and watching them grow and build upon their success has been a real pleasure. These guys really don't believe in plateaus, they keep pushing. They aren't simply piling on either. There is a genuine progression to more challenging stories and experimentation with different styles within the genre.

Developer Funcom and publisher EA recently released Issue #2 for their hit PC MMORPG, THE SECRET WORLD, and the new content drop adds plenty of fun new items— a rocket launcher, a plastic surgeon's hospital known as The Modern Prometheus, a new barbershop called Ockham's Razor, Mission Pack #2, new nightmare mode dungeons and more—to an already great game. While the new art for Issue #2 may make you a bit squeamish, the expansion a welcome addition that ensures the good times keep coming in THE SECRET WORLD.

It was recently announced that rising B movie star Bianca Barnett (ALBINO FARM, DEAD INSIDE) has taken a starring role in the upcoming EXPERIMENTS IN KILLING. Directed by Joseph Christiana (THE NIGHTMARE, MOTEL AMERICANA VOL. II) the film is exactly as the title implies, an experiment. Using a companion podcast entitled EXPERIMENTS IN PODCASTING, listeners will be immersed in all aspects of the production and given a chance, via polling, to make critical decisions about the film. Christiana, along with producer Thomas Dettloff and his longtime director of photography William Bourassa Jr., are gambling that this innovative format is going to lead to a unique piece of indie film history.
