If you’re looking for one-liners from old games or zombie twists on classic works of art, it’s almost guaranteed that someone has put it on a T-shirt. A good place to start looking is Tattered Star, which provides horrific puns and obscure gamer humor that we’ve all thought of but just never got around to putting on a shirt.

Tattered Star’s lineup bounces between modestly amusing and really funny. Although the jokes aren’t always entirely original, the company does score points for putting these obvious puns and quips on your chest. That said, there is a uniqueness to these shirts, even with artwork that resembles an early public-domain .gif. I was amused especially with their (unfortunately limited) gamer quotes; who doesn’t enjoy reminiscing about those 8-bit glory years?

Comfort is another category in which Tattered Star varies from one extreme to another, offering soft, comfortable blends with certain designs while placing others on heavier cotton shirts. Tattered Star’s website offers no distinction between the two; my “Conserve Water Drink Blood” shirt was printed on 100 percent heavy cotton, while my “MILF” T (featuring a sexy mummy, of course) was a 52/48 poly/cotton blend, yet both are listed on-line as being printed on shirts that are “preshrunk and made from 100% cotton.” (F or future reference, I prefer the blend.)

Geared more toward the monster/humor fan than hardcore horror buffs, Tattered Star does sport clever ideas, and is definitely worth checking out. Just don’t go there if you’re looking for demons and gore. On a very positive note, as it’s a small company, you won’t run the risk of running into any fashion doppelgangers. I wanted to fall in love with Tattered Star, and I do still wear my “MILF” shirt. Although simple, this outfit offers genuinely amusing punny apparel.
