Any horror nut worth their own weight in musty old comics can tell you that the EC Comics of the 1950s, along with Warren’s CREEPY and EERIE from the ’70s, are the upper echelon of the bite-size-illustrated-horror world, a benchmark that has been strived toward countless times. Very few, however, have come within a kidney-stone’s throw of capturing the same magic. But that’s why I’m terrifyingly tickled to tell you fright fans about Asylum Press’ upcoming release.

Best known to fright fans as the author of PSYCHO, Robert Bloch had an enormously prolific writing career. With over 20 novels, hundreds of short stories and even a few screenplays under his belt, he received acclaim and numerous awards for his crime, science fiction and horror stories, and was at one point a protégé of H.P. Lovecraft. Many of Bloch’s short stories were published in pulp magazines such as WEIRD TALES, including one of the first examples of Jack the Ripper fiction in 1943.

The third installment of DC/Vertigo’s five-part I, ZOMBIE finds our favorite undead detective and her motley crew of misfit comrades getting closer and closer to solving the mystery of “Dead Fred.” However, for a story arc over halfway complete, this has barely given us something resembling a clue as to where it’s all of headed.

With most zombie films, the credits begin to roll after you get a slight taste of what it takes to survive an apocalypse—leaving you to wonder what the remaining character(s) will do next considering their situation. It’s difficult to have any sense of closure when the screen fades to black while our hero, recently triumphant, is still stranded in a lifeless world.

FREDDY VS. JASON VS. ASH: NIGHTMARE WARRIORS is the epic showdown fans have been eagerly awaiting. When nightmare king Freddy Krueger and the unstoppable Jason Voorhees ambush the White House, only EVIL DEAD’s Ashley J. Williams can answer the heroic call to rescue America from pure evil in this WildStorm title.

Artistically riveting, WildStorm’s new graphic novel A GOD SOMEWHERE explores the superhero mythos as an epic tragedy. Four lives will be torn apart after a mysterious disaster turns one of them into an uncontrollable monster.

The second installment of DC/Vertigo’s I, ZOMBIE brings us back into the world of zombie/detective Gwen Dylan and her motley crew of friends and foes. The first issue spent most of its pages more or less introducing us to the characters, and the last few setting the gears in motion. Before reading the second issue, I was ready for a predictable plot explosion wherein everything took off at breakneck speed; the stage had been set and all the players appeared to be at the starting position. But to my surprise (and relief), this series is turning out to be a slowly crafted, well-planned, outlandish romp!

In Bram Stoker’s iconic 1897 novel DRACULA, there is roughly a chapter and a half devoted to the mysterious events that took place on board the Russian ship the Demeter. Having sailed from Varna, Bulgaria to the shores of Whitby, England during a violent storm, the schooner is discovered with no crew in sight and the captain’s carcass tied to the ship’s helm.
