The first issue of the new HACK/SLASH four-issue miniseries from Image Comics opens strongly with a growing cast of supporting characters while weaving in multiple plotlines.
In the second installment of the six-issue miniseries, MEMOIR (from Image Comics) continues to keep its readers guessing what the puzzling mystery is. Everyone in the small town of Lowesville is responsible for a murder that took place 10 years ago, but none are aware of what they really did. Are these residents faking their memory loss or do they actually remember what they perpetrated? The weird inhabitants of Lowesville will remind readers of David Lynch characters.
The TRUE BLOOD graphic novel ALL TOGETHER NOW (IDW; $24.99) collects the first six-issue series of TRUE BLOOD comic books, inspired, of course, by the hit HBO show and Charlaine Harris books. ALL TOGETHER NOW takes place at Merlotte’s during a thunderstorm. Characters Sookie, Jason, Eric, Tara, Lafayette and Sam, as well as a few locals, are hanging out inside, waiting out the bad weather. When the psychically “gifted” Sookie approaches a dining patron, she realizes it’s really an “Imp Shaloop” named Ted, who has numerous tentacles and the ability to crush (and kill) her and her friends. Shortly after Sookie’s beau Bill arrives, he quickly gets bitch-slapped by the beast.
From Image Comics and Concept Art House, DAOMU #1 kicks off to a great start with its mystery-building suspense. Reality comes crashing down on a young man as he stumbles onto the dark underworld of grave robbers. Tension escalates when our reluctant hero confronts ghosts from the past, bloodthirsty creatures and men with guns.
THE DARKNESS #89 (Top Cow Productions) is a thrilling mix of the Western and horror genres. This one shot-special, “High Noon,” starts out with a life-threatening hanging and escalates to an action-packed train heist. A supernatural outlaw is on the search for gold, while his old gang is out hunting him as well. Readers will definitely be satisfied with the creative blend of monsters and guns.
The second issue of PROOF: ENDANGERED (Image Comics) continues with new plot twists surrounding a secret agent who hunts and protects mythological creatures. Monsters, giant worms and shadowy government agents stand in the way of Bigfoot from learning the truth about his mysterious past. The stakes are getting higher as the Sasquatch’s greatest enemy threatens everyone he loves.
NOCHE ROJA (Vertigo Crime, arriving February 22) is a mind-bending crime thriller that will leave you breathless. A private detective searches for an unstoppable serial killer in the wastelands of the border. Money, corruption and sex, all tie-in together as the investigator faces against lawless and frightening figures.
The trade paperback of HACK/SLASH: MY FIRST MANIAC (Image Comics) collects the debut miniseries of Cassie Hack, the slasher slayer who saves screaming teenagers. HACK/SLASH has made a smooth transition from Devil’s Publishing to Image Comics. This chapter in the hit series is a flashback adventure to Cassie’s first supernatural case when she was 16 years old. The origins of Cassandra Hack are explored, explaining why she only hunts serial killers.
