As a kid – DAWN OF THE DEAD and the 1978 remake of INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS. As a man – Von Trier’s ANTICHRIST destroyed me on an intellectual and visceral level and in a purely old fashioned, carnival spook house way, James Wan’s INSIDIOUS made my blood freeze.

HOW DID YOU COME TO WORK AT FANGORIA?
Back when I was an NYU student, I applied for an internship,
and four hours later got a call to write an article for the mag. It was one of
the more difficult interviews I’ve done—with a director who was one of those
“It’s not a horror film” types—but I guess it made a good impression, as I
became a regular contributor, and then joined the editorial staff a couple of
years later.
WHAT DO YOU DO AT FANGORIA?
Just about everything that goes into putting the mag
together, plus writing a whole bunch of stuff and writing/editing for the
website as well.
FAVORITE HORROR MOVIE?
John Carpenter’s HALLOWEEN. Up until I saw that, I had been
a little bit afraid of horror movies, but this one scared the hell out of me
and made me love it.
FAVORITE TV SHOW?
Probably a tie between BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER and 24, even
given a weak season or two of each.
WEAPON OF CHOICE?
Cutting sarcasm

See above. In the last decade or so, I’d say [REC] was the
movie that I watched the most of through my fingers.

Bear holding a crossbow and a bag of piranha.
WHAT HORROR MOVIE SCARED YOU THE MOST?
When I was a kid, ITS ALIVE scared the hell out of me. Now that I’m grown, I must confess JAWS has subconsciously made me check all lakes, pools, and oversized bathtubs for potential shark-shaped shadows lurking beneath the surface.

Circus peanuts (those gross orange ones) and watermelon flavored bubble gum. And anything in loaf form that shouldn’t be a “loaf” like meat loaf or tuna loaf. Ick!

Marla Newborn joined the Fangoria team in 2005 to help launch what was to be Fangoria TV. Down the road she became known as the "queen of short films" and continues to champion the horror short in her writing on fangoria.com and on her blog THE NEWBORN DEAD.
Like everyone else in the FANGORIA family, Marla has been a fright fan ever since she was a little girl growing up in New York City watching Creature Features, Chiller Theatre and all the cool monster and sci fi shows on TV. In fact, she can practically recite lines from almost every Twilight Zone and Alfred Hitchcock episode!
Marla's favorite movie is the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre because the idea of being helplessly held captive by psychotics with no help in sight is one damn scary thought!

Design Fangoria cover/editorial. Create the production schedule, make sure Fangoria gets to the printer on time so it will make the On Sale dates, answer advertisers’ questions and solve any problems with their ads, place the ads into the magazine, make sure ads and editorial stay on schedule, stay in touch with the printer and our distributor until the magazine is on the newsstand on time, design any promotional needed, discuss with artists on their assignments, keep the color copier calibrated, work out the best deal leasing and buying anything needed for the company while watching cost and much, much, much more!
