Having turned down the TWILIGHT sequel NEW MOON after directing the first film, director Catherine Hardwicke (pictured) instead jumped into a darker-sounding genre project: an updated take on the Little Red Riding Hood story, which has now been given the green light by Warner Bros.

Yesterday we brought you a look at MONSTERS, one of the five midnight movies in this year’s SX Fantastic lineup at Austin, TX’s South by Southwest, programmed by the Fantastic Fest folks. Also part of the program is a beastly bit of UK horror, Colm McCarthy’s OUTCAST, which the director happily says isn’t exactly a whodunit but a “what-done-it.”

The rural fright feature AS NIGHT FALLS recently wrapped in Florida under writer/director/co-star Joe Davison, who gave Fango an exclusive first look at a bunch of pics as well as the poster (see ’em after the jump). He and his collaborators also offered their thoughts on the Pop Gun Pictures/Crown Productions film.

The theatrical reissue of Sam Raimi’s classic THE EVIL DEAD is in full swing, having launched last Friday in Los Angeles to a sold-out crowd, and the folks at Grindhouse Releasing got in touch with the very latest on the shows.

The NIGHT OF THE DEMONS remake directed by Adam Gierasch has been bouncing around the release schedule for a while now, but now it looks like the update of Kevin S. Tenney’s 1988 Linnea Quigley-starrer has finally settled on a date.

Not since the liger has an animal hybrid generated so much buzz. Syfy has announced that Eric Roberts will star in SHARKTOPUS, a new Original Movie being produced by Roger Corman that will premiere on the channel later this year.

Fango scribe William Sean Wilson spoke to fright filmmaker Chad Ferrin for an upcoming mag piece on his twisted shocker SOMEONE’S KNOCKING AT THE DOOR, and the director revealed the supplemental details for the upcoming discs of KNOCKING as well as his previously lensed flick EASTER BUNNY, KILL! KILL!, both streeting this summer on Breaking Glass Pictures’ Vicious Circle label.

The film world has lost two people who contributed to the genre in very different ways: Charles B. Pierce, the trailblazing independent filmmaker of the ’70s and early ’80s, and actor Corey Haim, who as a teen starred of a pair of high-profile horror features.
