Once their dropped jaws hoisted back into place, just about everybody present to witness the HATCHET II promotional clips at San Diego Comic-Con seemed to agree those scenes were every bit as satisfyingly vicious as the first film’s fans had been hoping. Writer/director Adam Green looks poised to revive the ’80s slasher sequel tradition of bettering its predecessor's gore gags.

My all-too-brief stint at the Fantasia film festival came and went in a blink. I barely had a chance to nod at my fellow Fangorians (both Mike Gingold and Tony Timpone were milling about) in attendance, never had a drink with any of my pals and only saw a handful of flicks.

Actress Emma Bell has been racking up the horror credits recently, appearing in an episode of SUPERNATURAL and enduring the cold in Adam Green’s FROZEN. Currently, she’s dealing with the heat in Atlanta, Georgia filming Frank Darabont’s THE WALKING DEAD. Check out the actress’ comments after the jump.

Fellow zombie hunters and mall-infestation survivors! This past weekend at San Diego Comic-Con, Capcom hosted a panel dedicated to its September 28 release of DEAD RISING 2. Among those in appearance was the father of Mega Man and zombie aficionado Keiji Inafune, the company’s head of production. Along with a fantastic advertisement for a trip to Fortune City, Inafune provided some insight as to how the sequel came about and other related surprises.

As the remake of CLASH OF THE TITANS storms the DVD/Blu-ray realm this week on the Warner label, the video-game tie-in is also debuting from Namco Bandai for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. For a rare peek into the writing process that goes into a genre game, Fango got in touch to Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi, co-scripters of the feature and writers of the game counterpart, and prodded around their grey matter to see what makes them type.

Looks like director Darren Aronofsky’s (pictured left) new genre outing is becoming quite the festival darling. On the heels of news that his psychological chiller BLACK SWAN will open the Venice Film Festival (see story here) comes the announcement that the film will have its North American premiere at another prestigious venue.

Coming to theaters August 20 from Dimension Films, Alexandre Aja’s PIRANHA 3D recently caused a stir at Comic-Con (well, technically, outside Comic-Con), where 10 minutes of bloody and babe-filled footage was screened. Fans who attended the midnight screening of THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE (FIRST SEQUENCE) Saturday night at Montreal’s Fantasia film festival got a special treat: the world premiere of the new trailer for the Canadian exploitation extravaganza HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN—the first time actual footage from the film has been shown to an audience anywhere. Fango was there to witness it, and spoke to a couple of the film’s team as well.

The last news to come out about the proposed remake of Alex Proyas’ 1994 cult classic THE CROW was producer Edward R. Pressman talking about a “major actor” being in discussions to join the project, and that director Stephen Norrington had written a “terrific” script that takes place in the Southwest as well as an urban setting. Now, the producer has revealed that musician-screenwriter Nick Cave is rewriting the screenplay.
