FANGORIA wants to send three lucky Toronto-area residents to see editor Chris Alexander’s 35mm presentation of the 1978 version of INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS as part of Alexander’s ongoing Film School Confidential series at The Bloor Cinema. The screening, hosted by co-star and genre veteran Art Hindle (THE BROOD, BLACK CHRISTMAS, OFFSPRING), takes place Wednesday, March 30 at 9:30 p.m.
Functioning as both a remake of and loose sequel to Don Siegel’s classic 1956 sci-fi shocker, director Philip Kaufman’s nightmarish INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS is a masterwork of paranoid horror. Donald Sutherland gives the performance of his career as a health inspector who, along with his colleague Brooke Adams, slowly discovers that a plague of alien parasites have been duplicating the San Francisco populace, turning them into emotionless drones. As the walls close in, our heroes must fight not only for their lives but for their very souls. Amidst the remarkable supporting performances are ace turns by Jeff Goldblum, Veronica Cartwright, Leonard Nimoy and Canadian actor Hindle, whose role as the first “victim” of the pods still chills the blood.
