The GHOST SHIP, THE SKULLS and ROLLERBALL scribe is making his directorial debut with QUARANTINE 2, the sequel to the 2008 film that was an American remake of Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza’s 2007 hit Spanish chiller.

Dread Central reports that QUARANTINE 2 chronicles a group of people as they deal with the outbreak started in the first movie, but this time the infection follows them to the airport. The film is currently in preproduction, with shooting slated to begin in June.

Additionally, Screen Gems and Third Street Pictures announced that Robert Hall, President of Almost Human Inc., is returning to the series to once again handle the special makeup FX. Hall’s most recent gig was this year’s CRAZIE remake, so he’s obviously familiar with creating psychotic infected people. Here’s what Pogue had to say about the FX artist and LAID TO REST director: “I’m excited to have Robert and Almost Human as part of our team for the sequel. I know that his vision and talent will deliver brilliant makeup designs and effects that can only take the QUARANTINE franchise to the next level.”
