It’s turning into a big day for DVD/Blu-ray news, as Shout! Factory passed Fango the content info for its disc releases of PIRANHA and HUMANOIDS FROM THE DEEP. The aquatic chillers, part of Shout!’s Roger Corman’s Cult Classics line, street August 3, and we’ve also got an animated look at PIRANHA’s lenticular DVD cover!
Director Joe Dante and scriptwriter John Sayles’ 1978 carnivorous-fish story, starring Bradford Dillman, Heather Menzies, Kevin McCarthy, Keenan Wynn, Barbara Steele and Dick Miller, will be presented in anamorphic 1.78:1 widescreen. Both the DVD and Blu-ray will feature the U.S. poster art on the cover and the international poster on the reverse cover—and, perhaps in ackowledgment of the forthcoming theatrical release of PIRANHA 3D, the DVD edition will come in this lenticular exterior packaging:

HUMANOIDS, the 1980 film about sea monsters seeking to mate with human women, starring Doug McClure, Ann Turkel and Vic Morrow and directed by Barbara Peeters, will be presented in its uncut international edition, also in anamorphic 1.78:1 widescreen. These discs will also sport reversible covers with the U.S. poster art on one side and international poster art on the other; special features on the DVD and Blu-ray include:
• “The Making of HUMANOIDS FROM THE DEEP,” featuring new interviews with composer James Horner, 2nd unit/assistant director James Sbardellati, editor Mark Goldblatt and others
• Never-before-seen deleted scenes
• Leonard Maltin interviews Corman on the making of the film

In addition, for fans of futuristic action, Shout! also has a Roger Corman’s Cult Classics double-feature DVD of the David Carradine-starring DEATHSPORT (the follow-up to DEATH RACE 2000) and the New Zealand-lensed BATTLETRUCK coming on the 3rd as well. DEATHSPORT will be presented in a new anamorphic 1.78:1 transfer with the following extras:
• Audio commentary by co-director Allan Arkush and editor Larry Bock
• Interview with actor Jesse Vint
