Magnolia Pictures’ Magnet Releasing arm keeps rolling along with the genre acquisitions, having just announced that it has picked up U.S. rights to RUBBER, one of the more unusual genre features in recent years, and released a couple of cranial-damage photos from it.

RUBBER is writer/director Quentin Dupieux’s saga of a car tire abandoned in the desert that somehow comes to life. “Robert” discovers that it can telepathically destroy objects and animals, and then turns its new powers on humans, with bloody results. “Robert the tire has to be the most unforgettable villain of the decade,” says Magnet’s Tom Quinn. “Quentin Dupieux is a crazy genius.” Adds Adeline Fontan Tessaur of sales company Elle Driver, “RUBBER is such an original, quirky film that we couldn’t imagine a better distributor than Magnet. This film is completely crazy—I can’t wait to see the reactions of U.S. audiences.” The film has already started building a following since it screened as part of the current Cannes Film Festival’s Critic’s Week; a Stateside release date has yet to be determined. Check out the trailer below the pics, and the movie’s official website here.
