Noteworthy genre films from around the world, past and present, will be showcased at New York City’s Lincoln Center over the next month.

Starting this Friday, January 25 and continuing through Thursday, Jan. 31, the Film Society of Lincoln Center presents Celebrating the Australian Film Revival, offering the rare opportunity to see a wide spectrum of great Down Under cinema on the big screen in 35mm. Of Fangorian interest are a showing of George Miller’s original MAD MAX, accompanied by the director’s rarely screened short VIOLENCE IN THE CINEMA PART 1, on Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 6 p.m., and Peter Weir’s hypnotically eerie PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK on Thursday, Jan. 31 at 6:15 p.m., both at the Howard Gilman Theater in the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center (144 West 65th Street).

The Society’s annual Film Comment Selects series runs Monday, February 18-Thursday, Feb. 28 this year, and while the schedule is still being finalized, a couple of much-anticipated fear films are already part of the lineup. Adrián García Bogliano’s HERE COMES THE DEVIL (pictured above), whose showing at last year’s Scary Movies fest got scotched by Superstorm Sandy, and Antonio Campos’ SIMON KILLER will be shown on dates and times to be announced. And for action fans, the Society has announced FOXY: The Complete Pam Grier, a celebration of the kick-ass actress, running Friday-Sunday, March 15-17; specific titles have yet to be confirmed.
