Geared toward children, FRANKENWEENIE is a marvel of macabre design, trading heavily on the Burton tropes of sentimentality, child’s-eye terror, Gothic horror clichés and imagery and grim whimsy. It also trots out a fantastic voice cast, including Martin Short, Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara, who aid immeasurably in bringing this fable about death to life.

In anticipation of Disney’s impending deluxe DVD and Blu-ray release January 8, FANGORIA caught up with young actor Atticus Shaffer, who channels Peter Lorre as the tombstone-toothed Edgar “E.” Gore, whose prying and inability to keep a secret sabotages the safety of young Victor (voiced by Charlie Tahan) and his no-longer-dead dog Sparky.
