The first five minutes of AMERICAN HORROR STORY: ASYLUM are online and... at least the opening credits are stellar once again.
Age-gated at Facebook for little more than "do me in this abandoned insane asylum talk," the opening of ASYLUM sets up Adam Levine and Jenna Dewan-Tatum's characters as a couple haunting/horror freaks honeymooning via the twelve most haunted haunted places in America (and totally doing it in the most haunted corners of each).
While it's entirely likely AMERICAN HORROR STORY will get right back on track to its wonderful trashy-self once the couple find themselves in the past (or however this season will work), this opening is a slog of exposition, asinine sexy talk, Adam Levine and ends on one of the most tired scares in all of genre. Here's hoping the Maroon 5 frontman quickly makes way for Jessica Lange, James Cromwell, Lily Rabe, Sarah Paulson and all the promises of mutants, nunsploitation and asylum horror that look to make this season a good time.
But hey, at least the opening credits are stellar once again. Also, Ryan Murphy revealed that legend Ian McShane (DEADWOOD, HOT ROD) has joined the cast!
