Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton's THE COLLECTOR follow-up sets up the booby-trapping baddie as a 21st Century H.H. Holmes.

As with many sequels, THE COLLECTION looks to take a cue from ALIENS. Arkin, the first film's survivor heads back into The Collector's home base to help a father find his missing daughter alive. Of course, elaborate, grisly deaths-by-trap await in the seemingly empty, or abandoned hotel The Collector has set up shop.

Is this a reference or inspiration from 19th Century American serial killer H.H. Holmes, who trapped his victims in the Chicago hotel he ran and constructed to be a disorienting maze-like structure with secret passages and doors that only lock from the outside? Holmes constructed chutes, experimented on bodies with acid (which played my favorite role in the first COLLECTOR) and routinely rotated builders on his hotel so that only he truly grasped its layout.

THE COLLECTION hits theaters November 30, but sees its world premiere this Friday at Fantastic Fest. For more on the film, keep a look out for our Fantastic Fest review as well as words with Dunstan and Melton.

Yahoo! debuted the clip.
