As a dybbuk tops the box office, Qur'an-based creatures are primed for their close-up.
Freestyle Media has acquired the rights to Ajmal Zaheer Ahmad's JINN, based on Islamic folklore of a third creation (Man, Angels and ...) that occupy a parallel world, were bestowed free will and are versed in magic. Jinn can be both good and evil, but as this is a horror film, I doubt they're joyful in this iteration.
Jinn are most often regarded as dangerous and horrific and as I've written before, when Tobe Hooper began work on DJINN, his own similarly-themed film, I personally saw the stories taken very seriously.
No release date just yet, but you can keep up with the film at its official Facebook.
