On the eve of its world premiere as the closing-night film
of the International Critics’ Week at the Venice Film Festival this Friday, Xan
Cassavetes’ erotic vampire film KISS OF THE DAMNED has been snapped up for
worldwide distribution.
Magnet Releasing, the genre division of Magnolia Pictures, announced that it acquired KISS; specific release plans are to be announced. Joséphine de La Baume stars as Djuna, a beautiful bloodsucker who, in a twist on the form, is the object of seduction by a handsome screenwriter, Paulo (THE DIVIDE’s Milo Ventimiglia). Trouble starts for Djuna and the entire vampire community when her troublemaking sister Mimi (RUBBER’s Roxane Mesquida) arrives on the scene; the cast also includes Riley Keough (in her third genre-esque Magnet film after the just-released thriller THE GOOD DOCTOR and the upcoming JACK & DIANE) and Michael Rapaport. “Xan Cassavetes has managed to breathe new life into a tired genre in one of the most original, and frankly hottest, horror movies I’ve seen in a very long time,” says Magnet/Magnolia president Eamonn Bowles. “KISS OF THE DAMNED is a smart film with real artistic aspirations that is also incredibly fun to watch.”
“It is incredibly gratifying to be working alongside real cinephiles and visionaries,” say producers Jen Gatien and Alex Orlovsky. “Magnet is such an exciting company who understand that cinema and entertainment can be synonymous. This is our vision for KISS OF THE DAMNED and we couldn't be happier that they are partners.”
