Actor Ryan Gosling has won numerous accolades for roles both dramatic and comedic, but for his first directorial venture, he’s heading into dark, fantastical territory.

Variety reports that Gosling will make his debut at the helm on a film called HOW TO CATCH A MONSTER, which he also scripted. DRIVE and MAD MEN’s Christina Hendricks stars a single mother living in a surreal, vanishing city who is plunged into a macabre underworld, while her teenage son discovers a secret road leading to an underwater town. Gosling is also a producer on the movie with Marc Platt and Adam Siegel of Marc Platt Productions and Michel Litvak and David Lancaster of Bold Films; shooting is set to begin next spring.
