While that other vampire-lite flick prepares to storm
theaters this winter, a cheekier movie mixing laughs with fangs will taking a
bite out of the big- and small-screen scenes, as Amy Heckerling’s VAMPS now has
a release plan.
Anchor Bay Entertainment has announced that it will open VAMPS in limited theatrical release November 2, followed by DVD and Blu-ray November 13. The film reunites writer/director Heckerling with her CLUELESS star Alicia Silverstone; the latter and Krysten Ritter play Goody and Stacy, two beautiful modern vampires in New York City navigating the world of humans, dealing with romantic dilemmas (Stacy falls for the son of the latest incarnation of Dr. Van Helsing, played by Wallace Shawn) and the threat of ancient bloodsucker queen Cisserus (Sigourney Weaver). Dan Stevens, Richard Lewis, Justin Kirk and Malcolm McDowell also star; the discs will include 16x9-enhanced 1.78:1 transfers with Dolby Digital 5.1 audio on the DVD and Dolby TrueHD 5.1 sound on the Blu-ray, with no special features yet announced. Retail prices are $22.98 for the DVD, $24.99 for the Blu-ray. Heckerling and Silverstone discuss VAMPS in Fango #318, out in October.
