As part of Fango editor-in-chief Chris Alexander’s ongoing Film School Confidential! screening/lecture series at Toronto’s Bloor Cinema, Alexander and Vagrancy Films are rewarding loyal FSC students with an uncut 35mm print of Lucio Fulci’s towering masterpiece of phantasmagorical horror, CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD.
“This is my all-time favorite Italian horror movie,” Alexander says. “It is maverick genre filmmaker Fulci’s finest creative hour. It is terrifying, gorgeous, insane and unapologetically revolting. It features open portals to hell, undead priests, teleporting zombies, a woman buried alive, another woman vomiting guts, a man getting his head drilled and both men and women getting their brains squished out. And maggots…lots and lots of maggots. It is truly, truly a magnificent motion picture, one that just improves with the passage of time.”
Film School Confidential! is proud to present this magnum opus of shock, a wild, smarmy and delicious 35mm experience. As usual, Alexander will provide a pre-screening, in-depth lecture, this time about Fulci and CITY’s importance as both a piece of his puzzle and a piece of horror history. And then…let the drills whir and the spleens spill. It’s time to open the gates of hell…
