Looking into a BATTLE ROYALE series, and now developing a modern day SLEEPY HOLLOW with shock goals? What is the CW up to?

The CW is partnering with Warner Bros TV on a pitch from Patrick Macmanus and Grant Scharbo (THE GATES) for a contemporary slant on Washington Irving's classic THE LEGEND OF SLEEPY HOLLOW.

There's a competing development at Fox from kings of slick mediocrity Len Wiseman and writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, but the CW's is the only one apparently being described as it is above. Is that hype? It would seem so. HBO is currently full of sex and grue on the small screen with TRUE BLOOD, as is FX with AMERICAN HORROR STORY. And even barring explicit sexuality, THE WALKING DEAD and BREAKING BAD have been equally as violent on AMC. It's hard to imagine any channel, let alone a network, attempting to go further than that. Although with their recent attempts to mount a show based on BATTLE ROYALE, could they be looking to get into the intense, violent drama game?

Maybe they mean a series that will attempt to actually scare, for once?
