Another year drips into its last quarter and with it comes another round of the Toronto International Film Festival…and for us lovers of all things grotesque, grim and gleefully uncivilized, that means another round of TIFF’s celebrated Midnight Madness program.

Midnight Madness programmer Colin Geddes says, of this years lineup:

 “Audiences clamoring for this highly anticipated lineup can expect wild rides and crazy adventures into the most chimerical and wicked worlds imaginable. Expect everything from outrageous horror comedies to mock-doc eco-apocalypse thrillers, featuring trans-dimensional bugs, lewd Catholic priests, meat monsters and dog-napping psychopaths that will animate the Ryerson Theatre when the clock chimes 12.”

Here’s some of the horrific highlights, all of which are world premieres:

• THE ABC’S OF DEATH – 26 directors – including Adam Wingard, Xavier Gens and Ben Wheatley – give their post modern gore starved audience 26 ways to bite the bloody big one.

• AFTERSHOCK – An intense earthquake thriller from Chilean director Nicolas Lopez that is both written by and starring none other than Eli Roth!

• THE BAY – DINER director Barry Levinson goes for the throat with this, his first horror film. Parasites in Maryland! Oh my!

• COME OUT AND PLAY – From Mexico, a brand spanking new killer kid flick…that is a movie about homicidal children, not for them.

• DREDD – Graphically violent updating of the cult Judge Dredd comics from writer Alex Garland (28 DAYS LATER) and director Pete Travis.

• HELLBENDERS – JT PETTY (S&MAN) returns with Clancy Brown in tow for this raunchy 3D exorcism comedy

• JOHN DIES AT THE END – Clancy Brown again in this riotous Don Coscarelli comedy shocker about an hallucinogenic soy sauce that makes monsters out of its addicts.

• NO ONE LIVES – From MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN’S Ryuhei Kitamura comes this stylish horror noir.

• SEVEN PSYCHOPATHS – Black comedy from director Martin McDonagh starring Woody Harrelson and ….wait for it….Tom Waits!

And…

• THE LORDS OF SALEM – Rob Zombie’s long awaited epic horror film gets its world premiere….

Now I ask you, is that a lineup or is that a mutha fuckkin’ lineup!
