With its co-star Josh Henderson now part of the hit reboot of the classic ’80s TV series DALLAS, David DeCoteau is rereleasing his creature feature LEECHES! on DVD later this year, in a brand new special edition that is guaranteed not to suck. Scripted by Fango’s own Michael Gingold, the 2003 nature-amok flick (in which a college swim team’s steroid use results in bloodsuckers in a nearby lake getting big and vicious) is getting the preferential treatment with a 16x9-enhanced 2.35:1 transfer and new special features, streeting November 6. Also along for the ride is SPEED DEMON, a DeCoteau feature from the same year about a mysterious driver in a muscle car that takes on a brutal small-town gang. “Over the years, LEECHES! and SPEED DEMON! have gained a huge following,” the director tells Fango. “Many of the DVD releases of these titles have been full-frame. Since I shot the films in 2.35:1 Cinemascope, I have decided to rerelease both titles together letterboxed: LEECHES! in 16x9 and SPEED DEMON in 4x3, preserving the widescreen look as I intended the movies to be seen.”

In addition to the feature presentation’s mutant mayhem, DeCoteau promises a boatload of skin-crawling extras. “I created a 100-minute making-of documentary for LEECHES! that includes bloopers, never-before-seen photos, outtakes, on-camera interviews with one of the creators and more. I also recorded a new audio commentary with Michael Gingold where we both talk about the making of the film. And I’m including an e-mail address where fans of the film can contact Rapid Heart and get their very own PDF copy of the shooting script. I’m really thrilled with this disc!”
