The Kimberly Peirce-helmed readaptation of Stephen King's classic has begun production. Confirmed cast and plot crunch below...
While nothing new is revealed in terms of cast—Chloe Moretz essays Carrie White, with Julianne Moore as Margaret, while Judy Greer takes on gym teacher Ms. Desjardin, Portia Doubleday plays mean girl Chris Hargensen and Gabriella Wilde is Sue Snell—Screen Gems has unveiled the film's official synopsis alongside the announcement.
The quiet suburb of Chamberlain, Maine is home to the deeply religious and conservative Margaret White and her daughter Carrie. Carrie is a sweet but meek outcast whom Margaret has sheltered from society. Gym teacher Miss Desjardin (Greer) tries in vain to protect Carrie from local mean girls led by the popular and haughty Chris Hargenson [sic], but only Chris’ best friend, Sue Snell, regrets their actions. In an effort to make amends, Sue asks her boyfriend, high school heartthrob Tommy Ross, to take Carrie to prom. Pushed to the limit by her peers at the dance, Carrie unleashes telekinetic havoc.
CARRIE is slated for release March 15, 2013.
