Director Richard Stanley (pictured), who has shared his singular visions through fiction features such as HARDWARE, DUST DEVIL and THE THEATRE BIZARRE, has had an equally notable and intriguing career as a documentarian, and we’ve got some new, exclusive material on his latest such project, L’AUTRE MONDE (THE OTHER WORLD).

Produced by France’s Metaluna Productions (which also backed Stanley’s THEATRE segment THE MOTHER OF TOADS), L’AUTRE MONDE is an exploration of regions of the world where our reality is said to overlap with that of spirits, aliens and other paranormal beings. The film will take audiences through the medieval villages of Montségur, Rennes-le-Château and Bugarach in a quest to capture these other worlds on film; Karim Hussain, Stanley’s cinematographer on TOADS, is shooting this one as well.

“After 22 years of study, I plan to bring my extensive knowledge of the area to bear on this feature-length documentary, which Karim Hussain and myself plan to shoot in the areas of the Aude and the Ariege this summer. This project will examine some of the curious belief systems of the region’s inhabitants, where half-remembered legends of faeries and the ‘encantada’ blur into modern-day UFO lore. I intend to interview a cross-section of the local populace, ranging from individuals who claim to have had real-life experiences they can’t readily explain or quantify to town mayors, civic dignitaries and government employees who have been trying to suppress what they view as a virulent and potentially dangerous strain of mass hysteria.” Keep your eyes here for updates!
