A twist on the terrorized-babysitter subgenre is wrought by MISCHIEF NIGHT, whose trailer recently hit the web. Writer/director Travis Baker sent Fango a few words on the flick, which co-stars genre favorite Malcolm McDowell (pictured).

“MISCHIEF NIGHT is a longtime passion project of mine, and I’m thrilled to see the trailer hit the web and get people talking,” Baker tells us. Brooke Anne Smith stars as Kaylie, a teenaged babysitter who receives a warning from a stranger (McDowell) the night before Halloween. Sure enough, a masked stalker turns up to terrorize her—but their interaction takes some unexpected turns. “It’s very much a love letter to the great American alasher, particularly John Carpenter’s HALLOWEEN, but it’s also a subversive take on the form, hopefully giving people something they haven’t quite seen before. For me, the best horror movies are the ones that really shake the genre up, and that’s what we’ve attempted to do here. We have just completed postproduction, and are gearing up to get it out into the world. It’s too early to say right now when everyone can expect to see it, or in what way, but the wheels are turning. It’s an exciting time.”

MISCHIEF NIGHT is Baker’s first feature as a writer/director, following stints on the crews of HOSTEL and 2001 MANIACS, and he and his cohorts have also been involved in the genre scene on-line. “Before making this film,” he notes, “MISCHIEF NIGHT producer Richard Tanne, editor Joe Lindquist and I would often pay tribute to our favorite horror movies on our Cinema Cool web series, which I also encourage folks to check out. It has been a great privilege, and the adventure of a lifetime, to actually dig in and make a horror film ourselves.” We’ll keep you posted on when MISCHIEF NIGHT will be unveiled.
