Having debuted in an edited version on NBC Universal’s
Chiller TV two weeks ago, Jason Collum’s scream queen documentary SCREAMING IN
HIGH HEELS now has a definitive date for its uncut, unrated DVDebut.
Collum gave Fango the word that Breaking Glass Pictures will release SCREAMING on DVD August 28. The docu, which we first told you about here, covers the history and legacy of fan-favorite fright actresses Linnea Quigley (THE RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD), Brinke Stevens (THE SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE) and Michelle Bauer (HOLLYWOOD CHAINSAW HOOKERS), plus their frequent directors Fred Olen Ray and David DeCoteau and other cohorts. Collum tells us he’s “thrilled to finally get their story into the hands of genre fans. I spoke with Breaking Glass co-president Richard Ross over the weekend, and his enthusiasm for the genre and this title really showed me that Breaking Glass Pictures is the perfect home for this love letter. They’re planning to put some great extras on the disc as well, including additional sound bites by the ladies not used in the final cut. Ross and his team really seem to get what this group of filmmakers were all about—and why they achieved such a solid cult status among a generation of B-movie and direct-to-video fans. I’m so thrilled we get to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the peak of that era in this way.”
The filmmaker goes on to point out one bonus result of bringing the gals back together in early 2011 for SCREAMING: It resulted in DeCoteau reuniting the trio on film for the first time in two decades. “David was really excited about the continuing fan base of the girls because of films like his NIGHTMARE SISTERS and SORORITY BABES IN THE SLIMEBALL BOWL-O-RAMA [both 1987],” Collum says. “So the idea of a 25th-anniversary project seemed only natural, which is how his campy horror/comedy 1313: COUGAR CULT came to be produced. He just told me that not only has it sold well on DVD, but Redbox has just picked it up for a July release in its nationwide units, so the two projects are actually complementing each other. It’s a perfect, nearly parallel release.”
Cover art, complete specs and more on Breaking Glass’ DVD will be unveiled shortly, so stay tuned. In the meantime, check out the trailer below and SCREAMING’s Facebook page.
