Following his work on the two [REC] films, Spanish director
Jaume Balagueró made the switch to a more psychologically frightening
apartment-house thriller, SLEEP TIGHT, and now it’s got U.S. distribution.
MPI Media Group has announced that it has picked up North American rights to SLEEP TIGHT from Filmax Entertainment and Castelao Pictures, and plans a theatrical release this fall through its Dark Sky Films arm, followed by VOD and DVD availability. Scripted by Alberto Marini (who also wrote Balagueró’s 6 FILMS TO KEEP YOU AWAKE entry TO LET), SLEEP TIGHT is about an unbalanced doorman (Luis Tosar, pictured above) who develops a very unhealthy fixation with one of his tenants (Marta Etura). “MPI/Dark Sky Films is fortunate to work with some of the most talented directors in the genre,” says the company’s Greg Newman. “We have long been fans of Jaume Balagueró, and in SLEEP TIGHT, he has created a modern masterpiece of suspense. We are very pleased to be the North American distributor for this amazing film.” You can see the movie’s trailer below, and read an interview with Balagueró on SLEEP TIGHT in Fango #310.
