The first image from Danish director Ole Bornedal's return to stateside filmmaking, POSSESSION, has arrived and certainy seems to be living up to its moniker. 

Produced by Sam Raimi and Ghost House Pictures, who released his delightful alien teacher movie THE SUBSTITUTE, POSSESSION (formerly DIBBUK BOX) stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Kyra Sedgwick as a family under attack from that which lies within an antique wooden box purchased at a yard sale. 

Bornedal hasn't made an English-language film since the remake of his own NIGHTWATCH in 1997, instead staying in Denmark and really honing his style with the likes of the excellent JUST ANOTHER LOVE STORY (it's on Instant, watch it). Hopefully his return brings good things. 

MTV debuted the image as part of their summer movie preview. POSSESSION is in theaters August 31, 2012.
