It's the man's birthday, and you can celebrate well into March with the IFC Center's killer Carpenter series.
John Carpenter and his legacy need no introduction. The attributes of his films are innumerable, topped by the hallmark of great cinema: replay value. So tonight, watch whichever's your favorite and if you're in the NY/Tri-state area, your weekends just may be taken up for the next few weeks as IFC launches its Cult Carpenter section of its Waverly Midnights series.
Cult Carpenter is highlighting what the folks over at IFC purport to be some of Carpenter's most overlooked gems, and while THE THING and THEY LIVE certainly don't feel as such (and I'd totally swap out ESCAPE FROM L.A. for a chance at CIGARETTE BURNS projected), there need be no room for argument when it comes to classic Carpenter on the big screen.
