One of the most fun fests going is rapidly approaching, and
it’s kicking off with one of the most highly anticipated horror films around.
SXSW starts March 9, and the always varied and illuminating film roster opens with the Drew Goddard-directed and Joss Whedon-penned CABIN IN THE WOODS. Despite its delays, the apparent inversion of the horror cliché we all know and love hasn’t stopped buzzing, and those attending the festivities in Austin will get a nice sneak prior to its April 13 release.
Here’s the official, if restrained, synopsis: “"Five friends go to a remote cabin in the woods. Bad things happen. If you think you know this story, think again. From fan favorites Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard comes THE CABIN IN THE WOODS, a mind blowing horror film that turns the genre inside out. Produced by Whedon and directed by Goddard from a script by both, the film stars Kristen Connolly, Chris Hemsworth, Anna Hutchison, Fran Kranz, Jesse Williams, Richard Jenkins and Bradley Whitford."
Excitingly, the announcement also included an Irish film called CITADEL (from director Ciaran Foy) which has an immediately striking description: “An agoraphobic father teams up with a renegade priest to save his daughter from the clutches of a gang of twisted feral children.”
