While most of you were out and about doing your last minute Christmas shopping, some of us managed to escape all that and hit up the Toronto Underground Cinema last night and take in a special screening of Paul W.S. Anderson’s EVENT HORIZON, and this retrospective was quite a treat…

Anderson and long time production partner Jeremy Bolt dropped by for a 40 minute Q&A session before the film.  Both are currently in Toronto shooting RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION (the fifth film in the franchise) and were gracious enough to take some time out of their hectic schedules to reminisce about the good old days (pictures like the underrated SOLDIER and MORTAL KOMBAT) and gab about their latest projects such as THE THREE MUSKETEERS and RE 5.

Anderson was charming and pleasant; his recollections were often humorous and insightful with lengthy discussions about the gruesome 'hell' sequence, and how there would never be a director’s cut involving that uncensored footage. It seems Paramount accidentally tossed out the original negatives; sad news for the fans. No chance of an EVENT HORIZON restoration or uncut version, and apparently there was a lot hacked out. 

The fans that came out thoroughly enjoyed the chat, and Anderson and Bolt delivered on the goods.  Their anecdotes were enjoyable and informative and you truly got the sense their partnership as director and producer has been rewarding for both, and their love for creating old-fashion genre flicks is amply evident.
