The seafaring creature feature, HERE THERE BE MONSTERS, has lost the involvement of its intended captain.

Speaking with SFX, producer Todd Lieberman (THE FIGHTER, the upcoming WARM BODIES) gave an update on the project, saying, "We’re talking about potential directors. Robert [Zemeckis] is not officially involved any more."

The BACK TO THE FUTURE director was developing the film, a period tale fictionalizing the story of Revolutionary War hero John Paul Jones into one that includes sea monsters. Surprisingly, the plot is not lifted from a Seth Grahame-Smith novel, and is in fact written by Brian Helgeland, who penned LA CONFIDENTIAL and MYSTIC RIVER.

Lieberman added that he'd love to see Christian Bale take on the tole of Jones, believing the film could be " a great, historical, epic, fun, sea monster movie – something I’ve never done before. Hopefully we can get that one up and running."
