Now on its way to restoration, an early work from the iconic director of HALLOWEEN and THE THING from his time at USC has been uncovered.
CAPTAIN VOYEUR is the title, and Dino Everett, the archivist who made the discovery tells The Hollywood Reporter it bears some parallels to Carpenter's holiday-set classic, with a masked killer (who puts eye glasses over said mask) and plenty of POV. The film tells of a young man who, after becoming obsessed with a woman at work, follows and tries to murder her.
It's not always highly enlightening to see early work like this, but it is always intriguing and fun. I saw a very early short from one of Carpenter's classmates Dan O'Bannon earlier this year, and while crude, it very much spoke to him as the writer and filmmaker he would become. Hope to see this one soon!
