The annual Scary Movies film series put on by New York
City’s Film Society of Lincoln Center at Halloweentime is always chock full of cool movies new
and old, and this year’s is no exception. The lineup was just announced, and
includes the NYC premieres of several noteworthy films—and a must-see stage
performance.
Making their Manhattan debuts at the fest, which runs Thursday-Monday, October 27-31, are Ti West’s haunted-hotel opus THE INNKEEPERS (pictured left; review), Ben Wheatley’s horror/crime hybrid KILL LIST (review), the international multidirector anthology THE THEATRE BIZARRE (review) and Scott Leberecht’s moody LA vampire film MIDNIGHT SON (review), along with a big-screening of Mariano Baino’s 1993 supernatural chiller DARK WATERS. In addition, Scary Movies will present a special performance of Stuart Gordon’s acclaimed stage production NEVERMORE—AN EVENING WITH EDGAR ALLAN POE, starring Jeffrey Combs as the famed horror author, which won deserved raves in Los Angeles and Montreal. It’s part of a Poe celebration that will also include showings of Gordon and Combs’ BLACK CAT episode of MASTERS OF HORROR and Roger Corman’s Vincent Price-starring classic HOUSE OF USHER; Gordon and Combs will be on hand for a screening of RE-ANIMATOR as well.
And that’s not all: In addition to BLACK CAT, two more feline-friendly fear flicks, the 1969 Michael Sarrazin-starrer EYE OF THE CAT and the new Korean production THE CAT, are part of the lineup, as are the classics THE SEVENTH VICTIM and POLTERGEIST.
