One of the funnest repertory houses in NYC, 92Y Tribeca kicks off their "Rip-off Cinema" series tonight with a 16mm screening of the Blaxpoitation EXORCIST riff, ABBY!
ABBY sees the title character seized by a demon of sexuality unwittingly unleashed by her Exorcist father-in-law on a trip to Africa. Warner Bros. sued American International Pictures in 1974 for distributing the picture due to its similarities to William Friedkin's classic and as a result, AIP swiftly pulled it from theaters. ABBY currently doesn't have a decent decent home release, so this seems like a very, very cool opportunity. I've never seen it and have total plans on being there.
