Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips' CRIMINAL is the tops of contemporary comics, and now it seems the two are bringing their brand of devastating noir into more horrific territory with the upcoming series FATALE.
Bleeding Cool brought attention to the fact that in the back section of the most recent issue of CRIMINAL (the finale of "Last of the Innocent") Brubaker writes:
"FATALE is a bigger story, one that’ll run at least 12 issues, and I think it brings a new twist to noir (or at least, a new twist to my noir). In the next month or so, you should see previews of it online and in various places, so I don’t want to spoil it too much, but I’m very excited about it. It’s an idea I’ve been wanting to get into for a few years now, an epic noir/horror story that takes place from the 1930s to the present."
Noir and horror are wonderful companions that I'd love to see brought together way more often than they are (unless I'm seriously lacking in knowledge of noir/horror films and series. If so, please recommend!) The team of Brubaker and Phillips is pretty unstoppable, so there's nothing but excitement on this end for what they're cooking. The title undoubtedly evokes the image of a deadly dame and I can't wait to see what they come up with.
