Amidst premiering their new film, LOVELY MOLLY at the Toronto
International Film Festival, Eduardo Sanchez (THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT, SEVENTH
MOON) and stars Gretchen Lodge, Johnny Lewis and Alexandra Holden sat down with FANGORIA's Lianne Spiderbaby to discuss the
film, as well as a few interesting stories about the main shooting location; an
old haunted house in Maryland, not too far from where Sanchez calls home.
In LOVELY MOLLY, newlyweds Tim (Johnny Lewis) and Molly Reynolds (Gretchen Lodge) move into Molly’s long-abandoned childhood home in the countryside after the death of her father. An ex-addict, Molly is feeling good about her recovery, but when her husband leaves town on a trucking trip, Molly is left isolated in a house that holds several painful memories. Frightful reminders of a nightmarish childhood begin seeping into her new life and she soon begins an inescapable descent into an evil that blurs the lines between psychosis and possession.
Sanchez uses the shaky, hand-held camera, and first-person-point-of-view he reinvigorated with THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT and evolves it into a modern personal horror film with the raw, intimate character exploration that evokes memories of early Polanski films such as ROSEMARY’S BABY or REPULSION.
LOVELY MOLLY is screening at TIFF on Thursday, September 15 at 5:15pm, and Saturday, September 17th at 4:00pm. Keep an eye on Fango for a forthcoming review of the film.
