Two of Syfy’s May Saturday Original Movies are MONGOLIAN DEATH WORM (premiering Saturday, May 8, 9 p.m. ET/PT) and WITCHVILLE (debuting Saturday, May 22, 9 p.m. ET/PT). The channel is hoping that they do as well as their MEGA PIRANHA, which aired on April 10 and was the Syfy’s most watched movie of 2010.
In MONGOLIAN DEATH WORM, treasure hunter Sean Patrick Flanery and U.N. aide worker Victoria Pratt find themselves battling local bandits while searching for Genghis Khan’s secret tomb in central Mongolia. The crypt is guarded by man-eating Mongolian death worms, who grow very angry at being disturbed. In WITCHVILLE, HELLBOY II’s Luke Goss stars as a prince who returns home to claim his kingdom, only to find it overrun by witches. Though he initially refuses to believe in magic, he soon finds himself locked in a brutal war with the hags, whose leader, the Red Queen, is his long-lost mother. Ed Speleers and Sarah Douglas (from SUPERMAN II and RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD III) co-star.
Syfy announced that their Saturday Original Movie MEGA PIRANHA feasted on nearly 2.2 (2.156) million total viewers during its premiere on Saturday, April 10, 9 p.m. ET/PT, making it the channel’s most watched movie of 2010. In that film, THE BRADY BUNCH’s Barry Williams and 1980s singing sensation Tiffany form an unusual alliance to stop a mutant strain of giant ferocious piranhas that have escaped from the Amazon and are eating their way to Florida.
The next Syfy Saturday Original Movie will be MOTHMAN, premiering Saturday, April 24, 9 p.m. ET/PT. In MOTHMAN, starring FIREFLY’s Jewel Staite, the legendary West Virginia monster returns to exact revenge on five childhood friends who covered up an accidental killing.
