In the wake of a ton of excitement from Comic-Con, a wildly surprising change may be coming to THE WALKING DEAD. 

Deadline is reporting that executive producer and largely guiding force, Frank Darabont is stepping down from his showrunning duties on the much-adored THE WALKING DEAD. This no doubt comes as a shock considering this past weekend saw the filmmaker excitedly discuss and promote the upcoming second season (which is still in production). 

The site chalks Darabont's leaving up to his inability to get into the groove of a hectic television schedule. Oddly enough, a quote was included from the SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION helmer about how much he enjoyed the transition. No official announcement has been made just yet about this curious moment.

Season two of THE WALKING DEAD premieres October 16 at 9 p.m.
