Actor Emile Hirsch (pictured), from LORDS OF DOGTOWN, INTO THE WILD and SPEED RACER, is now set to embark on an adventure of the supernatural kind. He has been cast in THE DARKEST HOUR, an upcoming film in the 28 DAYS LATER vein from New Regency and Summit Entertainment.
Variety revealed the news that Hirsch will star in the movie, to be produced by NIGHT WATCH and DAY WATCH’s Timur Bekmambetov and Tom Jacobson, with shooting set to begin in June on the former’s home turf of Moscow. Directed by Chris Gorak, who previously helmed the post-dirty-bomb thriller RIGHT AT YOUR DOOR, THE DARKEST HOUR is about a group of young American travelers in Russia (also including JUNO and THE WACKNESS actress Olivia Thirlby) facing the frightening aftermath of an alien invasion. Gorak and Josh Zetumer are revising previous script drafts by Jon Spaihts (the scribe on Ridley Scott’s upcoming untitled ALIEN prequel) and the team of Leslie Bohem (whose credits include THE HORROR SHOW, A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET: THE DREAM CHILD and DANTE’S PEAK) and M.T. Ahern. The $40-million film will be released by Summit in the U.S. and New Regency and Fox International overseas.
