• Invincible Pictures gave Fango first word on the details of the DVD release of THE BURNT HOUSE, a new chiller from writer/director Adam Ahlbrandt (who previously scripted and helmed SIGHT). The disc is set to arrive July 16.
J.D. Brown, Monica Knight, Jon Reiss and Philip Raymond story in this story of Megan and Joe, a couple devastated by the death of their baby son, which has led Megan to have an affair. After Joe’s mother subsequently dies, the two move to his remote childhood home to attempt a fresh start, but strange occurrences and the unearthing of dark secrets get in the way of their recuperation. The movie will be presented in 16x9-enhanced widescreen with Dolby Digital 2.0 stereo, accompanied by a making-of featurette and the trailer. Retail price is $19.99. • Genre jack of all trades Johnny Legend sent along the news that he’s giving the James Landis/Arch Hall Jr. cult favorite THE SADIST its Blu-ray debut. Available at eBay now and Amazon.com soon, it’s a two-disc set that includes the Blu-ray, which sports a brand new high-definition transfer from the original 35mm master print, and the previously issued DVD with a Hall interview, Legend’s reflection on the movie and more. Written and directed by Landis, THE SADIST stars Hall as a psychopath who terrorizes three stranded motorists at an old junkyard, and features early cinematography by Oscar-winner Vilmos Zsigmond.
• Media Blasters will release the Japanese monster mash DEATH KAPPA (pictured) July 27; details and cover art are coming soon. Veteran monster maker/FX artist Tomoo Haraguchi, who also helmed SAKUYA: SLAYER OF DEMONS and KIBAKICHI, directed this saga of a young woman who returns to her hometown to live with her grandmother, only for her relative to be run down and killed by two drunken couples. The latter also damage the family shrine, releasing the turtlelike “kappa”—which later grows to titanic size afted an atomic explosion and squares off against Hangyoras, the equally mutated result of secret scientific experiments. • Cover art has appeared for GALAXY OF TERROR and FORBIDDEN WORLD, two titles in the Roger Corman’s Cult Classics line from Shout! Factory, arriving July 20. Full content details have yet to come to light, but GALAXY will certainly feature significant extras; producer Michael Felsher discussed his work on the title at our newsblog here. Look for updates soon; retail price for each disc is $19.93.
