Based on the comic book series written by Robert Kirkman, AMC’s THE WALKING DEAD premieres this October during AMC Fearfest (formerly known as MonsterFest), the network’s annual marathon of thriller and horror films. And today, the network announced who’ll be playing the lead role.
AMC previously announced that it had greenlit THE WALKING DEAD’s Season One for six episodes (check our story here), and now they’ve revealed that English actor Andrew Lincoln will be playing Rick Grimes, a small-town police officer who leads a group of survivors of a zombie apocalypse. As previously announced, Jon Bernthal will portray Shane, a survivor who was Rick’s police partner before the zombie disaster. Also, Jack LoGiudice has climbed aboard as co-executive producer.
THE WALKING DEAD begins production in June in Atlanta. Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert and Charles H. Eglee are the executive producers on the project, with THE MIST’s Frank Darabont pulling triple duty as writer, director and executive producer.
